Description: It is not uncommon to hear of Ugandan mothers giving birth in the bushes or at home due to the lack of birthing facilities.  Around 25% of children born in Ugandan communities die yearly due to birthing complications.  Approximately 20% of Ugandan women die per year due to complications experienced during child birth.  Karambi Maternity Ward currently has 10 bare wire metal beds and no equipment such as mattresses, blankets, gloves, basins, gauze, bed sheets, mattress covers and cotton which can help  during and after the delivery.  $1500 covers the cost of 10 mattresses, 10 leather mattress covers, 10 blankets, 10 bed sheets, 10 basins, 5 boxes of gloves and gauze and 10 boxes of cotton.
This need was recently completed for the Mugusu Maternity Ward.

HIV/AIDS Awareness
Project Type: Medical
Benefiting: Ugandans
Status:
In Progress
Description: Sub-Saharan Africa comprises the largest number of individuals infected with HIV.  Worldwide, the number of people infected with HIV is rapidly approaching 40 million.  The lack of education has prevented many individuals in Uganda from taking the necessary step to learning more about HIV.  Most fear getting tested and being ostracized by the community for being HIV-positive and refuse to get tested.  Many of the current health facilities lack the necessary testing equipment which is located in town hospitals.  The long travel distance from rural villages to town hospitals inhibits any HIV/AIDS testing measure for rural Ugandans.  The high fear of HIV/AIDS has become a top target for Kids with Knowledge to educate local individuals about the disease and hold free testing events in order to save lives and combat the spread.  It is hoped in the future that educational programs and free testing will be routinely offered and conducted at the Mugusu and Karambi maternity wards.

Malaria Nets
Project Type: Medical
Benefiting: Ugandans
Status:
In Progress
Description: 90% of malaria infections occur in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Around one to three million people are killed each year due to malaria, majority being children.  In most rural areas of Sub-Saharan Africa, malaria vaccines and medical treatment are not available.  As a result, malaria nets are a cheap and effective alternative solution to the malaria crisis to prevent individual contact with mosquitoes at night while asleep.  The simple net has already saved millions of lives and Kids with Knowledge will provide more nets to combat the spread of malaria.

Good Hope Primary School
Project Type: Educational
Benefiting: Ugandan Primary School Children
Cost: $2500/Classroom
Status:
In Progress
Raised: $1500
Donate: Email
kidswithknowledge@gmail.com for ways to donate/become involved
Description: Good Hope Primary School was established in 1997 and is run by Ugandan natives, David Rwamwaro and his wife, Linda.  The school provides education to over 500 children.  The school's walls are made completely of wood while the roof is made of tin.  With no doors or windows, the school provides no protection from the extreme temperatures during the summer and winter as well as from disease carrying insects.  In addition, rotting and leaking problems make it hard for the children to maintain their focus during the school day.  The classroom sizes are so small that the children lack the space to have individual desks.  With a lack of space, the teachers do not have any desks or chairs as well as basic teaching materials such as textbooks, pencils, etc.  Imagine having to go to school each day smushed next to someone, constantly getting bitten by insects, and working in temperatures over 100 degrees!

Kids with Knowledge will tear down the entire structure and rebuild it from bottom to top.  Seven classrooms, three nurseries, and a pit latrine will be rebuilt as permanent concrete structures with doors and windows.  Kids with Knowledge will build bigger classrooms that will be able to house individual desks for each child.  Also, the teacher will be provided a desk and a chair as well as educational materials to help these children get the education they deserve.  Each classroom costs $2500 to build.

School Supplies
Project Type: Educational
Benefiting: Carolyn A. Miller Middle School, Ghana
Cost: $500
Status:
In Progress
Description: Most of the children attending the Carolyn A. Miller Middle School wear the same uniform each day to school which are torn beyond repair.  In addition, many students lack the money to purchase basic school supplies necessary in order to get an education.  Kids with Knowledge will provide new uniforms and school supplies to students at the middle school located within a Ghanaian refugee camp.
