Kids with Knowledge was started in 2007 by Parteek Singla when he was a college freshman at East Carolina University. Since age nine, Parteek has been involved in community service, working with the Greenville, NC community to bring local and international change. With the help of other motivated individuals, Parteek led campaigns throughout high school to provide over 15,000 medical supplies to the victims of the 2004 Southeast Asia Tsunami and collect over 400 books for HIV/AIDS children through Books for Africa. During his senior year in high school, Parteek volunteered with a local international organization, Hope Aid International. Hope Aid is based in Uganda, Africa and targets economic and income-generating projects. After one year, due to Parteek's strong family background emphasis on education and personal interest in medicine, Parteek branched off from Hope Aid to start Kids with Knowledge to provide medical and educational aid to women and children in Uganda, Africa and in the States. Since its inception, Kids with Knowledge has raised over $10,000 to carry out several projects (see completed projects).
In 2010, Kids with Knowledge will become an official ECU student organization. Eight members make up the executive board of the organization and will oversee a general body of student members to carry out youth and educational events.
